Cookie Policy
Draft — not reviewed by a lawyer. This describes what the site actually does today, which is the only honest place to start, but a policy is a legal document and should be checked by someone qualified before launch. Anything the site has not been told is marked below.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website asks your browser to store. They let a site remember things between page views — that you are signed in, that you dismissed a message, or that a visit is a continuation of an earlier one rather than a new person arriving.
Similar technologies, such as local storage and tracking pixels, do comparable jobs. Where this policy says “cookies”, it means all of them.
What this site uses today
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used — which pages people reach, which they leave from, roughly where in the world they are, and what kind of device they are on. This is measured in aggregate. We do not use it to identify you personally, and we do not sell what it collects.
Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and sends data to Google, who process it on our behalf. Google may retain that data under their own terms.
We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is measured without cookies and without tracking visitors across sites.
Security
Contact forms on this site are protected against automated abuse. That check may set a short-lived cookie in order to tell a person from a script. Without it the forms would either be unusable or open to spam.
What we do not use
We do not use advertising cookies, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not embed third-party ad networks.
Your choices
You can control cookies in your browser. Every current browser lets you block them, delete the ones already stored, or be asked before a new one is set — usually under Settings, then Privacy.
Blocking cookies will not stop this site working. You can read every page, browse the work, and use the contact form with cookies disabled.
You can also opt out of Google Analytics specifically using the browser add-on Google publishes for that purpose.
The banner
The first time you open this site you are asked whether analytics may run. Nothing analytics-related is loaded until you answer, and refusing is a button of the same size as accepting — not a link hidden in small print.
Your answer is remembered in your browser’s local storage, not in a cookie, so that we are not setting something before you have agreed to anything. Clearing your browser data clears it, and you will be asked again.
You can change your mind at any time with Manage cookies in the footer, which reopens the same choice.
Cloudflare Web Analytics keeps running either way. It sets no cookies, does not follow you between sites, and does not need consent — which is why the site is not blind to a visit that has declined analytics.
Changes
If what the site does changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top moves. There is no separate notification — checking that date is the reliable way to know.
